Last Week's Program

Our Meeting of 16 July
Past President Warren Norton was our chair and we welcomed our guests and guest speakers Jo Eason and Lachlan Patrick.

The Global Village Project
Jo Eason introduced us to The Global Village Project (GVP) which was started in 2012, when then-medical student at Deakin University Dr Nicole Weber saw a gap in health equity in rural India and decided to do something to bridge it.
GVP started out with just one medical student, one nursing student, a mechanic and a real estate agent with a dream to start an immunisation program.
It has since grown over the past 6 years to become an Australian Registered Non-Governmental Organisation run by a team of 9 medical students under advisement of Professor Jon Watson and the Deakin School of Medicine.
Each year, they send a team comprising a supervising doctor and 10 medical students to continue the work in Orissa, India.
Lachlan Patrick is an engineering graduate with a strong commitment to improving the lives of people in developing countries through appropriate low-cost engineering solutions.
We were greatly impressed with the enthusiasm of Jo, Lachlan and their colleagues who are making a vital contribution to the health and welfare of those most in need.

Announcements, News and Help Required

Words From The Glorious Leader
President Tony says the make up rules have been eased significantly. No longer must your make up be within 14 days of a club meeting. Now you can make up anytime in the Rotary year.
If that isn’t enough, the classification system is out…gone… no more!
So, there’s Rotary…no “class” and only doing your make up once a year!

The Progressive Dinner – 5 October
This is the new date and more details will follow.

Tree Planting – Sunday 28 July
Peter Funston announced that the tree planting will be at the Eumeralla Scout Camp, Great Ocean Road Anglesea.
Times will be advised.

The Entertainment Book
As Graeme Fleet reported....a happy ending with 73 books and 20 apps sold, the Club receives around $1,080.00. A great result and worthy of celebration…so go out to dinner! Take your Entertainment Book and show it a good time after it has worked so hard for you!

Free Coffee at Satbir’s
Past President David Sykes announced that we can get free coffee at Satbir's 7-Eleven located at the intersection of Swanston Street, Ryrie Street and Sydney Parade and just across from the Andrew Love Cancer Centre for a donation of $2.00 to his collection for Rotary. Please drop in. He works until 11.00 am.

St. Albans Football Club Gate Roster
Volunteers are needed for 10 August.
Please contact Past President David Sykes if you would like to participate.

Our Grand Final Event Meeting – 24 September
Gold Coast Suns CEO Mark Evans will be our guest speaker with the focus on the Fight Cancer Foundation and the AFL’s Footy Colours Day fundraising.

Trivia Night Fundraiser
There is a new fundraiser planned by way of a Trivia Night with a sports theme at St. Albans Football Club on a Friday in November.
A quizmaster is required.
The beneficiary is the Mark West Foundation for families in need. There will be raffles and door prizes.

Meeting date changes
There will be no Club meeting on 30 July and it maybe an evening for Committee chairs to explore Club Runner.
Instead of a meeting on Tuesday 6 August we will have a meeting on Monday 5 August combined with other Group 10 Rotary clubs for the District Governor’s (DG) visit.
