Last Week's Program

Many thanks to Terry Thornton for her excellent notes of the last meeting.

Welcome new member Liz to her first meeting
We are delighted to have Liz Sykes as a member of our Club.

Our Award Winning Club
The water project conceived, promoted and overseen by our Past President Bryan is a great example of an international project supported by multiple clubs across the district - great teamwork and example of what Rotary does.

New Members and Mentors
Meetings have been held with each new member and their mentor.  A Mentor worksheet is under development which is soon to be issued by Tony.

New Members and new ideas
We are listening to what new members have to say/ideas.  Janine has met with some of the new members to take suggestions on board.  The suggestions will be tabled in 3 weeks at Club Assembly.  Some of the suggestions so far are:
o   Less formal meetings
o   How we share information
o   More social functions

Committee Meetings tonight
Committees need to have their budgets ready so that they can be discussed at the Board next week.

·        Discussions for the Board will also include what we may need to change such as membership fees and meal costs which may need to be adjusted.
Frivolity, Fun and Fellowship - To meet the social needs of members Allannah, Liz and Sue B have formed a “fun, frivolity” & friendship” committee.
·        Rollover Dinner - keep an eye out for invitations to our “Rollover Dinner” which should be heading you way soon - cost $30.

Announcements, News and Help Required

Announcements:
·        Expand your view of the world - increase international relations - District has two young lads, one from Switzerland and one for Austria, both looking for a host family on the Bellarine.  You don’t have to be a Rotarian to host a youth exchangee - you just have to be approved by Rotary.   We are not looking for a 12 month long host family as we are looking to share the hosting with another club. Contract Chris if you are interested in hosting one of these young lads or know of anyone else who may like to host.

·        Feed the Nation (oh well at least some of it) - Last Saturday a small number of us ran a barbeque for school kids and collected $490 profit.
·        This Saturday is the Swap Meet and we are still looking for 2-3 people to work on Saturday between 7.30am and 2pm.
·        This Friday we also need a small group to cater for the people setting up the Swap Meet between 5-7 pm - contact our catering specialists either John or Adrian if you can help.
·        Yannick is looking for helpers for Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on 11 June

·        Ride to Bellarine - across it’s lifetime the ride has achieved its goals and has raised $350,000 which is shared across 15 local Rotary clubs.  Funds are sent to Parramatta to support polio vaccination, with credit going to the clubs for having raised the funds.  So far this year the ride has an operating surplus in excess of $11,000.  Last week Past President John Patten sent a letter to the clubs to advise that the ride won’t be continuing in the future.  A big round of applause for all those who have worked on, ridden or donated to the ride - job well done.

·        Nearly up and running - David Beretta had knee replacement surgery last Friday and is doing so well he is expected to be discharged home tomorrow.

·        Vale Mary Elliott - stalwart of the Rotary Club of Torquay who passed away recently.

·        Who’s doing what - A draft 2018-19 Club Roles and Committees list will be distributed in the next week or so - Tony is the man to approach if there are any errors or changes to be made.

Next Week:
·        Hear Ye, Hear Ye - Guest Speaker next week will be Gary Newtown to speak about his recent trip to India to help inoculate children against polio.  Gary is a great key note speaker, please encourage guests to come.  Next week is also a partner’s night.

·        Fundraising Report - a most important report - the backbone of our Club’s activities.

·        Duties - Ross is Chair ably supported by Tony as Sergeant.  John is cashier and Robyn will tick you name off on the attendance list.  Warren is room and hosting.

·        See you all next week to listen to a great speaker and share good food and fellowship
